Rascal Flatts' Jay DeMarcus Recalls Drama Surrounding Son's Birth
Rascal Flatts' Jay DeMarcus says the past few days have been "a blur." Last Friday, while in Detroit for a show, he had to make an emergency trip to Nashville because his wife Allison was going to have their baby. He tells "People" doctors were concerned about the baby's health, and wanted to deliver little Dylan via c-section that afternoon. Jay admits that with the call from Allison he "immediately went into panic mode." He adds that after the delivery he only had about 20 minute to hold his newborn son, and Allison was still on the operating table when he had to return to Detroit for the show. He admits it was "very, very hard" to leave, but he didn't want to let the band and their fans down. He adds that Allison understands the demands of his job.
DeMarcus says he made it back to the venue with a police escort with just 30 minutes to spare, which is why he was still wearing his hospital scrubs when he took the stage. He explains that once he was sure Allison and Dylan were OK, he continued on with Rascal Flatts' tour. They performed shows Saturday and Sunday before returning home to Nashville on Monday. And now he'll have more than just 20 minutes to spend with his son. Rascal Flatts' next concert is in Nashville Wednesday night.
