George Jones Announces First Dates Of Final Tour

11/14/2012

George Jones is mapping out his "Grand Tour." The country legend is starting to reveal dates for the upcoming trek, which he has said will be his last. So far only 18 stops have been set, but more dates are expected to be added. Jones says fans can expect some "surprises" during the shows. He explains that he has "lots of friends," and "you never know who may show up." Jones announced his plans to wrap up his lengthy career with one more album and a final farewell tour back in August. At the time he admitted that it wouldn't be easy for him to bring his 50-year touring career to a close, but said "the time has come."
The 80-year-old Country Music Hall of Famer's 2012 touring schedule has been hampered by his health. A lingering respiratory infection landed him in the hospital twice and kept him off the road for the first half of the year. His health also forced him to skip a couple of shows earlier this month. Jones still has several more dates to play before the year is over. He's expected to perform in Peoria, Illinois on Friday.
