Carrie Underwood has been cast to play the role Julie Andrews made famous in the film version of "The Sound Of Music." NBC says the Grammy winning country singer and "American Idol" alum will play nun-turned-governess-turned musical matriarch Maria von Trapp in an upcoming live broadcast of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic. In announcing Underwood's participation in the production, NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt said Maria von Trapp "was an iconic woman who will now be played by an iconic artist." No word yet on who will play Captain von Trapp, portrayed by Christopher Plummer in the 1965 movie musical. NBC's "Sound of Music" production is expected to air sometime during the 2013 holiday season.
