Tim McGraw Discusses His Sobriety With "Leno"
Tim McGraw says this May will mark his fifth anniversary of sobriety. The country superstar tells NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" he quit drinking cold turkey on the night before he went out on the road, which made for a tough tour for him. He admits that even today it's not always easy to abstain, but he doesn't regret giving up alcohol.
McGraw explains that as a performer it can be difficult to reconcile the "rock star" image with being sober. But he says the key is to simply remain focused and committed to leading a healthier lifestyle, which for him involves having a routine that includes daily workouts. As a result of his new lifestyle McGraw has also dropped 40 pounds and developed eight-pack abs. He admits he devotes a lot of time to his workouts, but adds that he considers it part of his job to stay physically fit -- especially when he's on tour. Tim just released his new album, "Two Lanes of Freedom," this week. He'll be launching a tour in support of the disc in Birmingham, Alabama on May 2nd.
