Brad Paisley Begins Run This Weekend On "Rising Star"

(Undated) -- Brad Paisley officially begins his tenure with a reality TV show with the premiere of the new singing competition "Rising Star." And the country star admits he's not sure what to expect, or what exactly is expected of him as an "expert." But he tells Billboard.com he knows what he's looking for in the contestants. Brad explains that he won't be considering "how somebody looks or their pitch," but will be looking for performers who "have heart." He adds that he's hoping to find singers who aren't there "just to be famous," but because they "have something to say." Paisley adds that he'd be thrilled to hear someone with enough courage to take a chance on playing an original song.

On "Rising Star," aspiring singers take the stage behind a barrier as viewers vote on what they're hearing in real time. Once the performer receives enough votes the barrier is lifted, giving Paisley and his fellow "experts" -- Ludacris and Kesha -- their first look at the hopeful. They'll also give feedback and advice, and help the contestants develop their talent. "Rising Star" will launch on ABC with the series premiere Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.
