New Johnny Cash Book Shares Childhood Stories


(Undated) -- Johnny Cash fans are getting a chance to learn about the country legend's upbringing, courtesy of his youngest daughter. Tara Cash Schwoebel says "Recollections by J.R. Cash" grew out of a personal project that dates back nearly 20 years. On the book's website she explains that in 1995 she gave Johnny a set of questions about his childhood, which he completed and returned the next year. Tara says Johnny was "a natural historian" with "a keen memory." She adds that his "stories are unique and his feeling about them a palpable."

The pages "Recollections" are filled with Johnny's answers -- in his own handwriting. Tara says she's confident her father "would be proud to share these stories," and after seeing his restored childhood home in Dyess, Arkansas she's now she's ready to do so.
