Taylor Swift Gives Live Performance Debut Of New Single At VMAs

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Taylor Swift might be diving fully into the pop arena with her new album, "1989." But the country-pop superstar wasn't going to make a literal leap at the MTV Video Music Awards. When the choreography for "Shake It Off" took Taylor to the top of a giant "1989" platform the singer wouldn't step off, claiming she wasn't going to add to the craziness of the event.

Swift's live performance debut of "Shake It Off" avoided the controversial moves of the song's video. She sang wearing a shimmering and short two piece silver fringed outfit with a group of similarly dressed female singers, while a team of elegantly dressed male backup dancers pursued her across the stage. The men were also waiting with outstretched arms to catch, in case she chose to take the leap.

Sunday's show marked Taylor's fourth time performing at the MTV VMAs. "Shake It Off" is the lead-off release from "1989." The disc, which Taylor has said is her first "official" pop album, will arrive October 24th.
