Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" Debuts At No. 1 On Hot 100
Aug. 27, 2014
(Undated) -- Taylor Swift, "pop star," has officially arrived. Her new single "Shake It Off" has debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, catapulted by a surprise premiere last week and an MTV VMA performance over the weekend. The song sold 544-thousand downloads in its first week out, marking it the largest download total of any artist so far this year -- and the fourth-largest ever. It marks Taylor's second single to top the Hot 100, following 2012's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." The video seems to be getting attention, as well. The song is not yet available on subscription services like Spotify, but still debuted at number two on the streaming chart thanks to the video's over 46-million views on YouTube.
"Shake It Off" is the first single off Taylor's upcoming album "1989," which she's calling her first "official" pop album. It's due out on October 27th.
