Pack for the Track: Your Speedy Checklist for Race Day Must-Haves

It's the Greatest Spectacle in Racing and the greatest time of year... the month of May is here and we're spending it all at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway!

May is going to zoom by (no pun intended) and we want to take it all in with ya. Miller Lite is giving away Grand Prix, Carb Day and Race Day tickets all month long so you can join us!

Got your tickets? Good! Now it's time to put your plan together:

Give yourself time, be patient, and have a plan together before you start driving. On race day, you'll likely end up parking in someone's yard (have cash on you for that—at least $50 to be safe), and be ok with parking far away and walking in (maybe even a mile). It'll be worth it to park a little further away to avoid some of the line of cars leaving after the race.

Check out the IMS Parking Map for the Grand Prix and Carb Day here!

Pack your cooler with easy grab-and-open drinks—pre-mixed drinks (so you don't have to mess with mixing there), beer, etc. Don't forget to check the IMS Gate Regulations for cooler restrictions before you start packin'!

TIP: Freeze some water bottles overnight and use those in your cooler in place of ice

You're preparing for a full day at the track. That means A LOT of walking, so it's a good idea to downsize what you carry. Look into a cooler backpack. Whether you're sitting in the stands, or walking around the infield/exploring Turn 3 (or Turnt 3), a cool drink or snack is just in reach.

You'll thank yourself for putting these lightweight, compact items in your bag too:

P.S. Don't underestimate the fanny pack... they're back. Nothing ruins a party like a lost ID, credit card, or phone. We dare you to count how many you see on race weekend. It's no wonder they've made such a huge comeback—a safe zippered pouch where you can quickly store your phone, money, and your next Miller Lite... what can't fanny packs do?

You have to splurge on a pass and visit the Pit at least once in your lifetime. Seeing the racecars up close and being that next to/on the track is all worth it. If anything, snag a spot near Gasoline Alley to see the drivers enter just before the race.

Every year we see Indy boutiques selling unique shirts for the Grand Prix, Carb Day, & Race Day. Plus, IMS already has their new gear out—stock up & shop the IMS Style!
