#tWINNING: Family Bond

First of all, thanks for taking the time to check out my blogs. This one is going to be a little different! I'm going to talk about someone that is very important to me, my brother Nick!

Family has always been one of the most important things in my life. I have two brothers, Nick (24) and Nolan (20) who were my co-Best Men at my wedding. We have always been able to maintain a tight nit bond.

Some may be aware of the hardship that came upon my family in February of 2015. My brother Nick was diagnosed with Focal Sclerosis which caused complete kidney failure. This was just days before his 21st birthday.

He has been on dialysis ever since. There is a dialysis machine at home that he plugs myself to every night for 10 hours. It is crazy to think that this February it marked three years.

As I mentioned earlier, family is one of the most important things in my life and that is the way my entire family feels as well. My Aunt Alison, my father’s sister, is one of the most selfless people I know. She goes on mission trips every year to help others and her Monday through Friday profession is working in medical field helping people every day.

My immediate family found out in October of 2017 that Alison had agreed to do a paired kidney donation. What this process means is that she volunteered one of her kidney’s be used to match someone on the kidney transplant list. This in turn, would link Nick up to get a kidney when they found matches for both parties.

They were notified in February that they had found matches and that it would all take place in March for the kidney transplants.

Last Thursday, both surgeries went as planned and everyone is doing well. Both of them have a handful of weeks in front of them for 100% recovery but are both on their way!

I will forever be grateful for my aunt Alison. You are one of the best people I know and are a hero in my eyes!

We are all anxious to see my brother back to his old self! Love you bud!

Family is my backbone and have helped me become the person that I am today and I couldn’t be luckier to be in a family as close as this one, so thank you for everything!
